3/16/95 Letter to M. James, transcription
March 16th 95
Dear M. James
I should be deligted to see you at my house quite apart from your errand, which I need scarcely say pleases me very much. I thought of going to Sotheby's on Tuesday morning also, in case there should be anything at all in my line, though I hardly expect it; and I should get back home about 2 p.m.
It might be as well if we met in Sotheby's room as you might be wanting something which I might otherwise bid for, but which in that case I should refrain from. But in case we do not meet, it is a very easy and simple journey to my house here: You go by the district train to Ravenscourt Park Station which is 5 minutes (really 5) walk from me, I am on the river to the left as you get to the elm-trees at the bottom of the road (River-court Road) which leads from the main road down to the water.
If we met at Sothebys of course I could take you home. I dont think we need trouble my lawyer with the matter as I have nothing to do but sign and get the signature witnessed.
If you could kindly drop me a postcard, in case you wanted to come here earlier than 2 pm I should be much obliged.
Yours very truly
William Morris
P.S. I have a few things here which I should like to show you.
